Semantic-Aware Interruption Detection in Spoken Dialogue Systems: Benchmark, Metric, and Model

Achieving natural full-duplex interaction in spoken dialogue systems (SDS) remains a challenge due to the difficulty of accurately detecting user interruptions. Current solutions are polarized between "trigger-happy" VAD-based methods that misinterpret backchannels and robust end-to-end models that exhibit unacceptable response delays. Moreover, the absence of real-world benchmarks and holistic metrics hinders progress in the field. This paper presents a comprehensive frame-work to overcome these limitations. We first introduce SID-Bench, the first benchmark for semantic-aware interruption detection built entirely from real-world human dialogues. To provide a rigorous assessment of the responsiveness-robustness trade-off, we propose the Average Penalty Time (APT) metric, which assigns a temporal cost to both false alarms and late responses. Building on this framework, we design an LLM-based detection model optimized through a novel training paradigm to capture subtle semantic cues of intent. Experimental results show that our model significantly outperforms mainstream baselines, achieving a nearly threefold reduction in APT. By successfully resolving the long-standing tension between speed and stability, our work establishes a new state-of-the-art for intelligent interruption handling in SDS. To facilitate future research, SID-Bench and the associated code are available at: https://github.com/xkx-hub/SID-bench.

NemotronLabs VoiceChat: An Open Full-duplex Speech-to-Speech Model with Tool Calling Capabilities

We introduce NemotronLabs VoiceChat, an open full-duplex speech-to-speech model with native tool-calling capabilities. NemotronLabs VoiceChat combines a streaming speech encoder and decoder-only language model with parallel specialized output streams for agent text and structured function calls, an auxiliary RNN-T branch for incremental user transcription, and a streaming TTS decoder. This design enables the model to listen, transcribe, reason, invoke tools, and speak within a unified streaming architecture while preserving the temporal behavior required for natural conversation. On Full-Duplex-Bench 1.0, NemotronLabs VoiceChat achieves the lowest pause-handling takeover rates among evaluated open-weight systems, 100\% takeover following user interruptions, and a 4.33/5 post-interruption response-quality score. On Full-Duplex-Bench 1.5, it resumes its response after user backchannels in 93\% of cases. NemotronLabs VoiceChat obtains a 55.1 normalized average on VoiceBench and, on Full-Duplex-Bench 3.0 (FDB 3.0), achieves 82.5\% tool-selection F1, while argument accuracy and end-to-end tool execution remain areas for improvement. These results demonstrate that full-duplex interaction, speech recognition and generation, general language capabilities, and external tool use can be integrated in a single open speech-to-speech model without sacrificing real-time conversational behavior.

OmniFlatten: An End-to-end GPT Model for Seamless Voice Conversation

Full-duplex spoken dialogue systems significantly advance over traditional turn-based dialogue systems, as they allow simultaneous bidirectional communication, closely mirroring human-human interactions. However, achieving low latency and natural interactions in full-duplex dialogue systems remains a significant challenge, especially considering human conversation dynamics such as interruptions, backchannels, and overlapping speech. In this paper, we introduce a novel End-to-End GPT-based model OmniFlatten for full-duplex conversation, capable of effectively modeling the complex behaviors inherent to natural conversations with low latency. To achieve full-duplex communication capabilities, we propose a multi-stage post-training scheme that progressively adapts a text-based large language model (LLM) backbone into a speech-text dialogue LLM, capable of generating text and speech in real time, without modifying the architecture of the backbone LLM. The training process comprises three stages: modality alignment, half-duplex dialogue learning, and full-duplex dialogue learning. Throughout all training stages, we standardize the data using a flattening operation, which allows us to unify the training methods and the model architecture across different modalities and tasks. Our approach offers a straightforward modeling technique and a promising research direction for developing efficient and natural end-to-end full-duplex spoken dialogue systems. Audio samples of dialogues generated by OmniFlatten can be found at this web site (https://omniflatten.github.io/).

TurnGuide: Enhancing Meaningful Full Duplex Spoken Interactions via Dynamic Turn-Level Text-Speech Interleaving

Full-Duplex Speech Language Models (FD-SLMs) are specialized foundation models designed to enable natural, real-time spoken interactions by modeling complex conversational turn-taking such as interruptions, backchannels, and overlapping speech. End-to-end (e2e) FD-SLMs leverage real-world double-channel conversational data to capture nuanced two-speaker dialogue patterns for human-like interactions, but their conversational abilities often degrade compared to pure-text conversation due to prolonged speech sequences and limited high-quality spoken dialogue data. Although interleaved text-speech generation could mitigate this degradation, integrating discrete text tokens into continuous double-channel audio streams could disrupt the precise time alignment required for fluid interaction. To address this, we propose TurnGuide, a novel text-speech interleaved generation approach for e2e FD-SLMs that dynamically segments assistant speech into dialogue turns and interleaves turn-level text and speech generation. This approach allows FD-SLMs to integrate the semantic intelligence of LLMs without compromising the natural acoustic flow. Extensive experiments show that TurnGuide not only significantly improves e2e FD-SLMs to produce semantically meaningful, coherent speech but also achieves state-of-the-art performance on various turn-taking events. Demos are available at https://dreamtheater123.github.io/TurnGuide-Demo/. Code will be available at https://github.com/dreamtheater123/TurnGuide.

Realtime-Venus: A full-duplex interaction system with asynchronous delegation

Natural interaction in digital and physical environments requires continuous perception and timely responses. Spoken dialogue relies on acoustic and linguistic cues, while video interaction also requires grounding the conversation in evolving visual context. We present Realtime-Venus, a proactive full-duplex interaction system with two separately trained 9B models: Realtime-Venus-Omni for audio-visual interaction and Realtime-Venus-Audio for spoken interaction. Each model serves as a complete conversational frontend, integrating continuous perception, conversational control, and native speech generation through a shared causal timeline for user inputs, model outputs, and delegation events. A dual-loop runtime coordinates live interaction with background reasoning and tool execution. Foreground interaction continues while Realtime-Venus-Harness executes tasks asynchronously and returns results for integration into the ongoing dialogue. Both models follow a common post-training recipe combining offline understanding, proactive full-duplex trajectories, and delegation workflows. Among the evaluated online models, Realtime-Venus-Omni achieves the highest scores on six of eight video benchmarks, including StreamingBench (70.2%), OVO-Bench (64.7%), and Daily-Omni (81.3%). Across eight audio understanding and spoken question answering benchmarks, Realtime-Venus-Audio leads the compared models on MMAU (78.0%), MMAU-Pro (63.2%), Llama Questions (83.8%), and Speech CMMLU (67.8%), while matching the best VoiceBench AlpacaEval score of 4.81. On Full-Duplex-Bench v1.5, Realtime-Venus-Audio responds to 75% of user interruptions and achieves continuation rates of 97%, 88%, and 86% under backchannels, other-directed speech, and background speech, respectively, exceeding Gemini 3.1 Live and GPT-4o on all three continuation metrics.

Enabling Proactive Spoken Turns via a Generalized Style-Aware Full-Duplex Framework

Compared with half-duplex dialogue systems where the system waits for user turn completion before it responds, natural full-duplex dialogue systems require agents to act proactively in real time, including timely interruptions and backchannels. This creates a key challenge: improving turn timing without sacrificing response quality. To address limitations in realistic proactive turn-taking, we build a generalized style-aware full-duplex framework with three key components. Firstly, we propose LPS-TC, a Lightweight Proactive Speech Turn Controller for plug-and-play integration. It features a fine-grained action space covering both reactive and proactive turn behaviors, enabling half-duplex models with full-duplex capabilities and enhancing existing full-duplex models with superior timing control. Secondly, we construct WildTurn, a large-scale, real-world English dataset containing approximately 2,981 hours of filtered multi-turn stereo conversations from face-to-face and telephone conversations, annotated with five turn-taking and five backchanneling styles. Trained on WildTurn, LPS-TC exhibits rich spoken dynamics that are not captured by existing static full-duplex benchmarks. Thirdly, we introduce a two-tier evaluation scheme that assesses both chunk-level timing precision and turn-level interaction quality under realistic streaming constraints. Our experiments, integrating LPS-TC with half-duplex models like Qwen2.5-Omni and full-duplex models like Freeze-Omni, showcase its superior performance in timing appropriateness and response quality. Our framework also demonstrates fine-grained style controllability and strong generalizability, enabling more natural and human-like spoken interactions.

MultiTalk: Scaling Full-Duplex Speech Models to Long, Multi-Party, Bilingual Conversation

End-to-end full-duplex speech models have brought open-source machine conversation closer to human-like interaction, yet existing systems remain limited in two intertwined dimensions: long-context robustness and multi-party interaction. Real-world scenarios such as meetings, group lessons, and social-robot reception require a single model to track, contextualize, and respond to multiple speakers over extended durations. Progress is constrained by both data and evaluation: open multi-party speech corpora remain small and are not designed for codec-frame-level full-duplex modeling, while existing long-audio benchmarks focus on passive listening and speech-to-speech benchmarks are mostly short and dyadic. We extend the Moshi paradigm jointly along the long-horizon and multi-party axes in English and Chinese. First, we release 57.6k hours of synthetic training data (https://huggingface.co/datasets/MultiTalk/MultiTalkPT{MultiTalkPT} and https://huggingface.co/datasets/MultiTalk/MultiTalkFT{MultiTalkFT}) for long-form, multi-party, English-Chinese full-duplex dialogue, with controllable length, participant count, turn-taking, overlap, backchannels, interruptions, addressee shifts, and long-range coreference. Second, we introduce https://huggingface.co/datasets/MultiTalk/MultiTalkBench{MultiTalkBench}, built from real human recordings, for evaluating long-form, multi-party, bilingual full-duplex dialogue. Conversations average 32.6 minutes and include probes for long-range entity tracking, topic coherence, and addressee selection. Third, we train a bilingual Moshi-style model that sustains coherent multi-party English-Chinese conversations over extended durations and substantially outperforms open-source baselines including Moshi, MiniCPM-o-4.5, and Qwen3-Omni-30B-A3B-Instruct on MultiTalkBench.
